The Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr. Alzheimer’s Center is a state-of-the-art research institute dedicated to the treatment, prevention and cure for this debilitating disease. Funded by the state of Florida and leading a consortium of researchers from around the state, the institute is constructing the nation’s largest free-standing building dedicated to Alzheimer’s research on the campus of the University of South Florida.
Alzheimer’s disease affects almost one out of every 10 people age 65 and older. At age 85 or older, almost half have the disease. It is a slow debilitating disease taking a toll on those who live with it and with their loved ones who provide them daily care. The researchers and all of the team of the Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr. Alzheimer’s Center & Institute have a deep passion to unlock the puzzle of Alzheimer’s. We are committed to doing the scientific work that combines basic science with clinical trials and world-class clinicians to discover prevention strategies, more effective treatments for patients, and ultimately a way to cure the disease. |
