Pianist Angela Hewitt Visits WUSF Live Performance Studios

 

Pianist Angela Hewitt stopped by the WUSF studio during her week in Sarasota as soloist for the Florida West Coast Symphony's opening Masterworks series. She talked with Russell Gant about her mission to promote the music she loves. Hewitt also played music by the composer she is most intimately associated with: Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as works by Chopin and Ravel.

A Midsummer Concert - John O'Connor in WUSF Studio

John O'Connor visited the WUSF studios on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005 for a midsummer concert. Fresh from recitals in Ireland and master classes in New York City, John talked with Bethany Cagle and played music by Sibelius, Scriabin and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

Russell Gant with Sarasota Music Festival studentsWUSF was proud to host faculty and students from the Sarasota Music Festival. Russell Gant welcomed Associate Director pianist Robert Levin to our studios, along with a quartet of students string players and faculty oboist Allan Vogel. When Russell asked young cellist Yun Joo Na what her future plans are, she said she hopes to create a Festival like the Sarasota Music Festival and carry on the tradition of music making she has experienced here in Florida.
 
 
Beethoven, Bach and Brahms - A Visit from Robert Levin and Joseph Silverstein

Pianist Robert Levin and violinist Joseph Silverstein from the Sarasota Music Festival performed live in the WUSF studio. They talked with Russell Gant and played the three B’s—Beethoven, Bach and Brahms. The live performance took place on Tuesday, June 7th, 2005, at 10:00 am.

Sarasota Music Festival Kick-off Visit

The Sarasota Music Festival’s Artistic Director Paul Wolfe and Associate Director Robert Levin kick off this year’s Festival with a visit to the WUSF studio. They performed live on-air for our audience and talked with Russell Gant about their work at the Festival. The live performance took place on Wednesday, June 1st, 2005, at 10:00 am.

Pianist Joaquin Achucarro Visits With WUSF's Russel Gant
 

Joaquin Achucarro
Pianist Joaquin Achucarro played in the WUSF performance studio and spoke with Russell Gant about his upcoming concert with the Florida West Coast Symphony. Mr. Achucarro has performed in 59 countries with over 202 different orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and many major orchestras of Europe.
