Florida Matters: "Tampa’s Bid for the 2008 Republican National Convention" (June 23rd, 2006)

GOP Convention with Red, white and blue balloons rising into the air.Tampa is a finalist along with Minneapolis, New York and Cleveland for the event to take place in September of 2008. The RNC Site Selection Committee is set to visit the area this August. The convention would bring an estimated 50,000 people to Tampa. Civic leaders say it would provide a $400 million dollar boost for the area’s economy but some critics dispute those figures. What would it mean for the area if the GOP’s big event came to town? Will discuss those issues and more with our guests: Listen now.

Our guests include:

  • John Moors of the Tampa Convention Center

  • St. Petersburg Times Reporter Janet Zink

  • USF Economics Professor Dr. Phillip Porter

  • Dr. Scott Paine Professor of Government at the University of Tampa

Join WUSF’s Robin Sussingham for Florida Matters Friday, June 23rd, at 6:30 pm and Saturday, June 24th, at Noon on WUSF 89.7, Your NPR Station.
