Florida Matters: “The Myths and Realities of Homelessness” (August 25, 2006)

By some estimates there are at least 20 thousand people in the Tampa Bay Area without a home on any given night. Most of them do not fit the stereotype of the drug addicted derelict. In fact, many are among the working poor and a growing number are families, or women with children.

Our panel of experts will discuss some of the root causes and investigate some possible long-term solutions. Listen now.

This week's guests include:

  • State Representative Kevin Ambler of Lutz
  • Mark Engelhardt of the Florida Mental Health Institute at USF
  • Michael Stoops, Executive Director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, and
  • Dr. Brad Paul, Executive Director of the National Policy Council on Homelessness

Join Florida Matters host Carson Cooper and guests as we explore the myths and realities of homelessness.

Join WUSF's Carson Cooper for Florida Matters Friday evening at 6:30 pm, and Saturday at Noon, on WUSF 89.7, your NPR Station.
