Our First Choice
Tchaikovsky was an ardent nationalist with a tremendous gift for creating new and unique melodies. Despite the many folk elements in most of his symphonies, he only occasionally used borrowed themes. In his so called "Polish" Symphony No. 3 there are no Polish folk songs quoted. The Symphony's subtitle comes from the finale which is marked Tempo di Polacca. Nonetheless, it is a favorite.
