Then & Now 2/14: Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine’s Day! So this is the day when we exchange cards, flowers, and candy. But how did all of this start? Well, according to History.com, Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Classical WSMR will feature love themed music throughout the day today, including our Evening Masterwork tonight at 7:00 as Tyler Kline features a famous serenade for you and your special Valentine.
