The Glenridge Performing Arts Center (7333 Scotland Way,
Sarasota) is proud to present, Cynthia Sayer & Her Hot Jazz Trio, co-produced by South County
Jazz Club and GPAC - Saturday, January 19th at 8:00 p.m.
Cynthia Sayer, regarded as the top 4-string banjoist in the world today, is back in
Sarasota by popular demand, playing her unique style of swing and hot jazz. Sayer’s banjo is
a force of nature – think virtuosity plus old favorites, along with engaging vocals, dynamic
entertainment, and toe-tapping fun!
A member of Woody Allen’s jazz band for over 10 years, Sayer’s solo career has
taken her well beyond these New Orleans roots to become a world renowned bandleader and
guest artist. She has a unique and expansive approach to the instrument which is all her own. Her eclectic, swing
based repertoire showcases the surprising range and power of jazz banjo. Cynthia tours
internationally, and has worked with a variety of leading artists such as Dick Hyman, Bucky
Pizzarelli, Wynton Marsalis, Les Paul, Marian McPartland, Warren Vache, and many others. She
has also appeared with top artists in other genres including roots, bluegrass and even rock
country artists like John McEuen (Nitty Girtty Dirt Band), Charlie Giordano (Springsteen’s E
Street Band), Tony Trischka and more.
Cynthia has accumulated numerous awards and honors throughout her career, including
induction into the American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame. Her most recent
release, “Attractions,” which includes legendary jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, received two
award nominations in 2009. She is currently working on a new CD,”Joy Ride,” which is
expected to be released in the spring of 2012.
