HARRISON'S "FORUM" TO OPEN APR. 23

The Harrison Musical Theatre Department presents Sondheim's jovial and rambunctious, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," on Friday, Apr. 23 and Saturday, Apr. 24 at 7:30 p.m., as well as Sunday, Apr. 25 at 2:00 p.m. All performances are at the Lois Cowles Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, 750 Hollingsworth Road, Lakeland, FL.

This laugh-out-loud musical comedy was the first show for which Stephen Sondheim wrote both the music and the lyrics. "Forum" embraces light, fun songs: from “Comedy Tonight,” which sets the tone of the evening, to the very humorous “Everybody Ought to Have a Maid” and the tongue-in-cheek “Lovely” between a young man and woman who don’t know much about love. The witty lyrics, loveable characters and engaging story will take you to a place with all of the essential ingredients for a good old frolic through ancient Rome, full of high jinks and farce.

"I have always loved this musical," states Director Laurel Renfroe. "I believe it is one of the best musical comedies of all time - having seen Nathan Lane play Pseudolus on Broadway in 1996, and having performed in the musical twice. I invite our audiences into the world of vaudeville, and slapstick comedy."

The cast is lead by Zachary Richardson as Pseudolus; Mark Bacon as Hysterium; Preston Pujol as Hero; Sara Machinia as Philia; Joel Whitehead as Senex; Megan Elliot as Domina; Van Den Hutchinson as Marcus Lycus; Jonathan Thomas as Miles Gloriosus; and Travis Sheppard as Erronius.

Featured performers include: Brittany Knight as Gymnasia; Dana Winter as Tintinabula; Carley James as Vibrata; Alyssa Wehle and Siobhan Gale as the twins, Geminae; and Haley Miller as Panacea.

Rounding out the troupe are the Proteans, played by Kiera Clark, Amanda Curry, Simon Cedeño, and Keith Young. The dancers are Ashley Hoppen, Caroline Williams, Audrey Hartfield, and Morgan Craven. The singing statues are Gabrielle Adkins and Crystal Broedel.

Come enjoy the gags, pratfalls, and knockabout antics of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" on Friday, Apr. 23 and Saturday, Apr. 24 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Apr. 25 at 2:00 p.m., at the Lois Cowles Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, 750 Hollingsworth Road, Lakeland, FL.
