Platform Art Party #16: Mind, Body, Art

Platform Art, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization committed to cultivating an understanding and appreciation of art in its many forms through production of multiple art events yearly. Platform events showcase regional and emerging talent in the fields of visual arts, film, fashion, sound and performance while exposing and growing a wider audience for all cultural arts organizations.

The theme of Platform Art #16 involves the concepts of symbolism, spirituality and propaganda portrayed through visual arts, film, fashion, music, dance and the dramatic arts.

Platform Art presents an exhibit by thirty visual artists. Short films are featured on a BIG screen in a loop for guests to enjoy at their leisure. A mix of multicultural musical performances of several genres will be presented, including the band 48 States Away, R&B/Pop singer George Lott, and more. The dramatic arts are represented through HIS Company, an ecumenical acting troupe sponsored by First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, who will present excerpts from the Company's upcoming living art show "All We Need Is Love", in which famous works of art, such as the Mona Lisa and others, come to life revealing various manifestations of love in imaginative contexts. The dance group Moxie La Femme will present a cabaret-style show. Wayne Mason, a poet and sound artist from Lakeland will present his working class inspired poetry that has appeared widely across the small press in both print and online magazines, and in several anthologies. He is the author of five chapbooks of poetry, the most recent being Poet Laureate Of A Dirty Garage from Erbacce Press. A local group will present a demonstration of Qigong, a system of “energy cultivation” used by both Taoist and Buddhist traditions as part of their meditative practice. And, there are so many more surprises.
