October Book Selection: "Jose’ Marti’ Selected Writings"
FMoPA is proud to display the exhibition Mario Algaze: Cuba 1999 – 2000, on display at FMoPA starting October 18th. The Cuban-born Mario Algaze is able to combine present and past via his photo journalistic approach and he finds a creative way to deal with his exile and Latin American roots.
“When studying the work of Mario Algaze, you cannot have a discussion about Cuba without having an introduction to the individual who has embodied Cuba both historically and culturally as well as in literary terms. Jose Marti has a special connection to Tampa and his writings are the foundation to post-Spanish (Spain) Cuban cultural and political thought from one end to the other in the socio-political spectrum.” - Fred Pirone, FMoPA Docent and 15 Minutes of Fame moderator
October’s book selection is Selected Writings of José Martí, edited, translated and annotated by Esther Allen. The book was named a Notable Book of 2002 by the Los Angeles Times Book Review.
Meet at Sono Cafe overlooking the banks of the Hillsborough River for book discussion, followed by a docent tour at FMoPA of Mario Algaze: Cuba 1999 – 2000. The Sono Cafe is accessible through an admission-free entrance at the Tampa Museum of Art.
