When Dizzy Gillespie stepped off the boat in Havana for a 1977 performance, he was met by a young fan who showed him around. That turned out to be the brilliant Arturo Sandoval, and the two remained close until Dizzy's death, with the bop master years later helping usher Sandoval and family off the island nation. Now comes a tribute, with Gillespie classics in sparkling big band arrangements, filled with all-star guests. It's one of our featured new releases this week, on Saturday Night Jazz with Bob Seymour.
