Johnny Varro Swing 7
The Glenridge Performing Arts Center (7333 Scotland Way,
Sarasota) is proud to present, Johnny Varro Swing 7, co-produced by South County Jazz Club
and GPAC - Saturday, March 16th at 8:00 p.m.
The Johnny Varro Swing 7 has been featured at Jazz happenings throughout the
world. Stateside, they've played at Waterloo Village in New Jersey during the
JVC Series; the L.A. Sweet and Hot Festival annually and the West Texas Jazz
Party. The band has also toured Germany and played at the Jazz Festival in
The Swing 7 is a very tight unit led by Johnny Varro on piano with Randy Sandke
on trumpet, Dan Barrett on trombone, Ken Peplowski on clarinet and alto sax,
Scott Robinson on tenor sax, Frank Tate on bass and Joe Ascione on drums. Johnny organized
the Swing 7 in 1994 mainly because it would fill a lifetime ambition of his to have a band that
would play and encompass the music of Eddie Condon, John Kirby, Duke Ellington's Cotton
Club days in the 30's, Count Basie during the 40's and 50's, and Gerry Mulligan and the Dave
Pell Octet in the 60's.
