WUSF Public Media Announces Executive Editor of the Healthy State Collaborative

TAMPA, Fla. (July 20, 2010) – WUSF Public Media is pleased to announce Jennifer Molina has been named executive editor of “The Healthy State Collaborate,” the local journalism center focused on healthcare issues in central Florida. She began on July 1, 2010. In this position, Molina will be responsible for the overall philosophy, content and output of the initiative.

Molina has more than ten years of experience in multimedia production for web, radio podcasts and documentaries. Most recently she served as a senior video producer for Newsweek.com, where she shot, produced and edited short video documentaries and multi-part series on social issues, culture and national affairs. She also has written and produced several documentary films for national and international distribution on a wide range of topical and socio-political, cultural and health issues as a freelancer.

Molina is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and multimedia reporter. She has received several awards including the GLAAD Award for Digital Journalism and the Front Page Newswomen’s Award in 2009, The New York Press Club Award in 2008 and 2009, and the American Medical Journalists Award in 2007. She was also a finalist for The Deadline Club award in 2009 and was a New York Association of Black Journalists (NYABJ) winner and GLADD award nominee in 2010.

Molina received a bachelor’s degree in history from San Francisco State University in California and post graduate certification in film and video from New York University.
The Healthy State Collaborative is being funded by a grant WUSF Public Media received from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. The project will focus on creating multimedia content related to healthcare issues and healthcare policy.

As the lead station of “The Healthy State Collaborative,” WUSF will be responsible for administering the grant, hiring staff to lead the project and will be accountable for meeting the goals of the initiative. The other stations involved in the initiative include WEDU (Tampa), WGCU Public Media (Fort Myers), WMFE Public Media (Orlando), WMNF (Tampa) and WUFT (Gainesville).

The two year project will include compelling content and community engagement opportunities that will include audio, video, text, photos, blogs, social networking, dynamic syndication and mobile applications. Significant attention will be directed to engage a younger and more diverse audience, in addition to the core public radio audience. The project will build upon natural partnerships between the stations as well as partnerships with other community entities.
