Aaron Copland
Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait"

During World War II, Aaron Copland was commissioned to write a work to encourage American patriotism. He was asked to choose a statesman as a theme, and Abraham Lincoln was his immediate choice. For inspiration, he turned to some of Lincoln’s famous quotations, and that gave him the idea of using a narrator. James Earl Jones will be your narrator this Veterans Day evening, as we bring you Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait”.

Listen Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00 PM.

November 11, 2009 On WUSF 89.7, Your NPR Station.
