In a single year two centuries ago — 1810 — two of the greatest composers to rise in the shadow of Beethoven were born within just months of each other. Frederic Chopin, son of Poland. Robert Schumann, out of Germany. Pioneers of Romanticism. Icons of the era. They made exquisite music that would still fill halls after two hundred years. They had madness, passion, poetry. A recent NPR Radio program, On Point, featured a discussion about these two. The discussion aired recently on NPR’s On Point, which airs weeknights at 8:00 PM, on WUSF 89.72.
