We’ll catch up with new jazz releases this week on Saturday Night Jazz. Among them, the latest from Joey DeFrancesco, the Hammond organist who breathed new life into the genre when he emerged twenty years ago. He’s back with his original trio, caught in a live concert performance. We’ll also check in with the latest from veteran saxophonists James Moody and Houston Person, and we’ll hear Ben Sidran, whose latest surprise is an all-Bob Dylan recording!

Chuck Owen, Director of the Jazz Surge

On the October 3 edition of Saturday Night Jazz, Bob Seymour’s guest was the director of the Jazz Surge Orchestra, Chuck Owen. A Distinguished Professor at USF, Chuck founded the Surge nearly 15 years ago, and the band is receiving rave reviews for “The Comet’s Tail,” featuring new arrangements of music by Michael Brecker.
