Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, Tuesday, January 8, 7 PM Meeting Announcement
The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at The Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd/US 41, Land O’ Lakes, 34639, between SR 52 and SR 54. Land O’ Lakes Community Center is located on the west side of the highway. Enter the rear meeting room through the middle courtyard from the south side of the building. The subject of the Tuesday, January 8 program is ”Magnify It!” presented by Katy MacMillen, an environmental educator who works for Pasco County’s Environmental Lands Acquisition and Management Program (ELAMP).
Magnify It! is an activity developed at University of Florida’s Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants to help practice magnification skills. First-come, first-served will receive a free magnifying glass. Everyone will receive cards with blank spots to fill in with information about a plant’s leaves, stems, flowers and roots. We’ll have a sample grass, a sample flower, and a sample shrub or tree to practice on, to improve or learn the tiny differences that are often critical to identification. Join us to learn new skills to identify plants and broaden your vocabulary!
Meetings of the Chapter are free, and all interested parties are invited to attend, to bring questions about their yard, and participate in light refreshments and the native plant drawing. Telephone inquiries are taken by Mary at (727) 849-2335.
