For two days, engineers, civic officials and building researchers will discuss ways to promote the use of renewable energy and low-impact building. Jody John is manager of Sustainable Sarasota. She says this is the first time the county has held such an event.
JOHN: With the growing awareness of water concerns, energy concerns, and the impacts of growth on our limited resources, our leaders are really looking at how we can stretch our resources to meet the community needs to protect our quality of life.
They'll display plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, EnergySmart cars and zero-energy homes, as well as built-in stormwater management controls.
The two-day even begins Thursday. It will be held at the Gulfcoast Florida Girl Scout Council Headquarters on Cattlemen Road in Sarasota.
