Lt. Gov. Jennings to Serve as Honorary Chair of Lee Campaign

Toni Jennings
TALLAHASSEE -

There seems to be little question that the Republican hierarchy believes Tom Lee is the candidate best suited to keep the chief financial officer's job in GOP hands.

The Senate president today named Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings as his honorary campaign chair.

The 44-year-old Lee and Jennings have similar backgrounds.

Both worked for their fathers in family-owned construction companies and both served as president of the Florida Senate.

State Representative Randy Johnson of Celebration also seeks the nomination.

The winner of the September fifth primary election will face former banking executive Alex Sink of Thonotosassa in the greater Tampa area in the general election.

The 58-year-old Sink is unopposed on the Democratic side.

Tom Gallagher, the incumbent CFO, is leaving the post after one term to seek the Republican nomination for governor in a contest where he is opposed by Attorney General Charlie Crist.
