Hundreds in Citrus County Fled Alberto's Wrath
![]() |
Citrus County officials have not done any damage assessments, because high tides are still pushing water inland. Citrus County Emergency Management director Joe Eckstein says Progress Energy was experiencing some of its worst power outages shortly after 3 p.m., because of the high winds.
ECKSTEIN: We still have water inland, and we're still around six to eight feet of water. Most of the roads that are on the west side of U.S. 19, the Sheriff's Office has set up roadblocks, and we're not allowing anybody west, because those roads are flooded and impassable.
Captain Eckstein says rescue workers had to respond after at least two people were stranded on an area called 'The Islands' west of Crystal River.
