Rains, Wind Pelts Pinellas, Pasco
High wind gusts from Alberto tore a 30 by 20 foot hole in the roof of the North Sunrise Resort on Clearwater Beach, a two-story building that still has the flavor of old Florida. Nineteen-year-old Dallas Jeffus of North Carolina was in a first floor room when it happened.
JEFFUS: The winds picked up - the rain picked up and things got a little chaotic. Part of the roof fell down and it was just a small part. Rain started getting in rooms and people started evacuating.
Guests moved from the damaged rooms to another part of the resort on Mandalay Avenue. Pinellas officials say high winds caused a few transformer fires and more than 2,000 people lost power briefly. Alberto also caused minimal street flooding in low-lying areas of Pinellas and Pasco counties.
