Elected County Mayor May Make it to Ballot
To date, the elections office has validated almost half of the signatures needed to put the county mayor question on November's ballot according to Mary Ann Stiles.
At a community forum yesterday, the Tampa attorney defended her efforts to create a non-partisan, elected executive to run Hillsborough County's day to day operations.
STILES: All we're saying is let the people decide what kind of government they want. If we get it on the ballot and they vote it down, you know that's not going to break my heart, but at least the people have spoken to this point they haven't had that opportunity.
In addition to collecting enough signatures - a certain percentage must come from each single-member commission district or the entire petition will be thrown out.
