Elections Are For The Homeless, Too

Florida law allows the homeless to use the address of the local Supervisor of Elections office for voting precinct assignments.

Lesa Weikel of the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County says being part of the political process can be a step in improving an individual's life, as well as that of the community.

WEIKEL: A lot of times - once people become engaged in their community - it's the first step to helping them move through a process to become self-sufficient.

Many groups that provide services to the homeless are also conducting voter registration.
