Insurance Panel Visits Bay Area

LARGO -

In its tour around the state the committee is hearing how the problems with insurance vary with the need.

Homeowners are facing high premiums or cancellation and many find they have to go to the state-funded insurer of last resort, Citizens Property Insurance.

Business owners say they have the same problems, but fewer options.

State Senator J.D. Alexander sits on the committee and says its members are aware of how the crisis can affect businesses.

ALEXANDER: If we don't have a place to work or go to our doctor or pick up our groceries that's not going to work for us either and will eventually show up in the price we pay for those things.

The committee is scheduled to make its first report to the governor by November 15.
