Jim Davis waited in the wings as Charlie Crist's victory speech beamed from two large-screen TV's into the Hyatt Grand ballroom.
There were no catcalls from a crowd of more than 100 - only applause when Davis supporters and eventually the congressman climbed on stage.
He started by telling the crowd: 'You're a beautiful group, the result tonight doesn't change that.'
DAVIS: Tonight, we came close - and we came very close.
Davis promised to continue his fight to change how the FCAT is used. He plans to start Wednesday by taking his sons to school and then heading to his office.
Davis said he had no regrets giving up his Congressional seat to run for governor, even though his party will now be in control.
