Bush Wants Insurance Reforms Before March

TAMPA -

Public hearings have been held. Recommendations have been made. It's now time to reform Florida's insurance market says Governor Jeb Bush.

BUSH: There are some things that need to get done like reinsurance because the timing of insurance companies ensuring reinsurance really happens in the first quarter. If you wait till the regular session, then the result would be there wouldn't be any benefit of lower premiums.

Bush also says changes need to be made now on how the state-run Citizens Property Insurance sets its rates.

BUSH: I believe they're talking about a big increase next year. Those things need to get done whether in a December or January prior to the regular session

The governor told reporters yesterday it will be decided this week whether there will be a special session while he's still in office.
