Republican Vern Buchanan of Sarasota took the oath of office today as Katherine Harris' replacement in Congress representing District 13. That's despite the fact that his opponent from the November election is still appealing his win.

Democrat Christine Jennings is asking a state appeals court to overturn a ruling that denied her access to the programming code for electronic voting machines used in Sarasota County. A circuit judge denied that request last week.

Buchanan told WUSF's Bobbie O'Brien that he's moving forward and the contested results have not hindered his efforts with maybe one exception. The name plate for his office on opening day was plastic and not a metal plaque like other members.
