On the day that Nancy Pelosi became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Kathy Castor was sworn in as Tampa's first female member of Congress.

And, Pelosi has tapped the former Hillsborough County Commissioner to serve on the prestigious House Rules Committee which decides what legislation is heard.

Castor spoke to WUSF's Bobbie O'Brien Wednesday morning from her hotel room in Washington D.C. She listed ethics reform, reworking Medicare Part D and making student loans more affordable as her top three priorities.
