New Members of Congress Promise Bipartisanship

Congress
TAMPA -

Republicans Vern Buchanan of Sarasota and Gus Bilirakis of Palm Harbor are freshmen congressmen and now members of the minority party.

But bipartisanship has always been more than a buzz word for Bilirakis.

BILIRAKIS: My career in Tallahassee has always been working with both parties. I chaired three committees in Tallahassee and the Democrats, Republicans I think were both satisfied. I was very fair and agenda'd the bills regardless of party.

Bipartisanship was a watchword for Democrat Kathy Castor as a member of the Republican majority Hillsborough County Commission. But now, Tampa's new Congresswoman will be in the majority.

CASTOR: I'm eager to get to work and find solutions. Ethics reform right off the bat. I worked on that in the local level at Hillsborough Coutny and had some success at lobbyist reform. But, it's time to do that, to instill confidence in the Congress.

The 110th Congress will be sworn in today at noon.
