Crist Says He's OK Using Adult Stem Cells

Charlie Crist
TAMPA -

The money will go towards research that would be limited to using adult stem cells, amniotic fluid stem cells, placental stem cells and stem cells from umbilical cord blood.

Research using embryonic stem cells is not funded.

The governor says his proposal strikes a balance between those who support stem cell research and the laws that govern it.

CRIST: We want to give hope to all Floridians and their loved ones. To move stem cell research forward gives the promise of that hope for Florida's future. Promoting the quality of life is compatible with protecting life.

Twenty-five states fund limited stem cell research. Seven states fund embryonic stem cell research.
