Visioning A Livable Future

Tampa Traffic
TAMPA -

They call it 'regional visioning.' A group of public and business leaders are trying to make sure our collective vision is 20-20 when it comes to getting a handle on all the growth that's coming our way.

Orlando is much further ahead in this than the Tampa Bay area. Randolph Lyon Jr. is part of the Central Florida growth visioning process. He says they've learned three things from the many meetings they've held with local residents.

LYON: One is the preservation of green areas. The second is to create centers of population, to make sure that our urban cores are all they can be;' and thirdly, to develop transit corridors.

They key, Lyon says, is getting all the various local leaders on board to agree on a regional growth plan. The future economic competitiveness of the Tampa Bay area could hang in the balance.
