Florida now has its first ever special counsel for mental health and criminal justice. He will advise the Florida Supreme Court on such matters.
This was inspired, in part, by troubles with the Department of Children and Families and its clash with the court system over mentally-ill inmates who are failing to get treatment.
Florida Chief Justice Fred Lewis appointed Miami-Dade Judge Steve Leifman to the job. He joined Morning Edition Host Carson Cooper.
