TAMPA -
A Circuit Court judge ruled that the city's reading of a law forcing employees who want to run for office to resign was overly broad. The ruling says the mayor does not have the authority to supervise police department employees;' only the police chief does.
Marion Serious Lewis says he intends to ask the city to reinstate him at his former rank of Captain, which paid about $100,000 a year. That may have to wait, however. The city attorney has indicated he plans to appeal.
