Cuts Equal 25% Tuition Hike

TAMPA -
Florida's 11 public universities are receiving only 96 percent of their approved budget this year because of the mandated 4 percent reduction that equals $100 million.
Chancellor Mark Rosenberg says it would take a 25 percent increase in tuition to make up for the 4 percent budget cut. Such a huge tuition hike is not anticipated, Rosenberg was trying to make the point that it will be difficult to recover from the current cuts let alone slicing another 10 percent.
University of Central Florida President John Hitt says if a 10 percent cut is mandated layoffs will be inescapable.
