Water Wars No More

CLEARWATER -

The genesis of this battle started seven years ago, when a local environmental group sued, saying the city's dam on the Hillsborough River was starving fish and plants downstream of fresh water.

So a plan was hatched that would take water from the Tampa Bypass Canal and funnel water to the lower part of the river.

But that was opposed by Tampa Bay Water, which feared this would take too much water from their customers.

The new plans involve tapping a variety of other water sources. Those include pumping water out of Sulphur Springs and two sinkholes - as well as building the pipeline from the bypass canal.
