Senate to Appeal Ruling

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Senate wants Florida to appeal a court decision that says a proposed ballot question on property taxes is misleading, hoping to still get the measure before voters in January.

Lawmakers earlier this year voted to ask voters in the January 29th election to change the way homeowners' property taxes are calculated. But a circuit judge this week threw out the proposed amendment, saying the ballot language is unconstitutionally misleading and inaccurate.

Senate President Ken Pruitt says the judge's decision should be appealed. Governor Charlie Crist says he's considering it, but changing the proposed amendment is an option too.

Lawmakers are scheduled to return to the Capitol in early October, and could simply change the wording.

Both options are still being considered in the governor's office.
