AP Ranks Bulls Above Gators

TAMPA -

There's a new player in the field of Florida football. The most recent Associated Press collegiate poll ranks the University of South Florida above the state's traditional 'big three' powerhouses.

Just weeks after earning its first national ranking, USF football has jumped to No. 6 in the nation in the AP poll released Sunday afternoon.

In that poll, the USF Bulls are three spots above No. 9 University of Florida Gators. The Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes aren't even in the top 25.

USF Athletic Director Doug Woolard marveled at how the Tampa Bay community embraced the team even prior to the Bull's upset win over the West Virginia Mountaineers Friday.

But there are still skeptics. In a local newspaper, FSU coach Bobby Bowden questions that USF can stay ranked in the top 10.
