Ten Percent Vote Early

TAMPA -

Nearly 10 percent of Florida voters cast their ballots before election day. But, those numbers may not be predictors of voter turnout.

More than one million of Florida's 10.2 million registered voters went to early polling places or voted absentee.

Party and elections officials say moving Florida's presidential preference primary to January has engaged voters who feel like the race is still undecided.

And, a heavily publicized property tax amendment is also fueling interest.

University of South Florida Political Science Professor Susan MacManus says analyses have shown that a large early vote means that really committed people choose to vote ahead of time and doesn't necessarily translate into a higher turnout overall.
