Driver's Ed on Road Back
Sickles High School senior Hannah Volz says the idea came from a fellow student who heard about a 16-year-old boy from Manatee County who was killed just one week after he got his driver's license. The Tyler Isenhour bill is now being heard in committee in Tallahassee. It's part of the annual 'Ought to be a law' student competition.
Volz told lawmakers a telling statistic: traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for young people who are between the ages of fifteen and twenty. Her bill would require everyone under the age of 18 to compete a driver's ed course before getting their license.
