It was a first-of-it's-kind in Florida. The U.S. Marshals Service teamed up with state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state. Their haul during the last three months: 2,500 fugitives arrested and nearly 3,000 warrants were cleared.
In the Tampa Bay area, the operation netted 179 fugitives.
Marshals want to create a permanent task force, but the estimated cost to local agencies - as much as $20 million - could mean it never gets started.
