Putnam Faces Challenge for Seat

LAKELAND -

Republican Adam Putnam has been representing the 12th district since he was 26 and the youngest member of the U.S. House. He's from Bartow, where his family has deep roots in citrus and ranching. So his own background fits in seamlessly with his district, which is somewhat rural, including most of Polk County, and parts of eastern Hillsborough and Osceola.

Democrat Doug Tudor is a 46-year-old Riverview resident, who retired earlier this year from the Navy as a master chief petty officer. He says Congress acted too quickly on the financial rescue package. And since the financial crisis took place on Putnam's watch, he says the congressman should be held accountable for it. Putnam is a member of the Committee on Financial Services, which oversees the nation's housing and financial services sectors.
