Coastal Cities Summit

ST. PETE BEACH -

It's called the Coastal Cities Summit. And what better place for this that than the Pinellas Beaches, where much of the economy is tied directly to the Gulf. USF St. Petersburg professor Chris D'Elia says this conference has been planned for several years. Deelia says such a summit that brings together scientists, researchers and legislators would help deal with the challenges that coastal communities have to deal with. 'If you look around the world, there are many coastal areas that are severely challenged and often due to developments in the adjoining coastal areas,' D'Elia says. Certainly, coastal cities have their impact on the waters right next to them. The speaker at the closing of the conference Thursday night will be Robert Ballard, the discover of the remains of the Titanic. He also documented the life that feeds on the vents found in the depths of the ocean. It will be held at the Island Grand Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach.
