TAMPA (2009-04-01) -

The spill happened at 11 a.m., when a barge making for the Port of Tampa was having some difficulties with its propulsion unit and struck a tugboat pushing a barge. The waste oil poured into the bay from a fourteen-inch gash in the gut's side. Petty Officer Rob Simpson is with the Coast Guard.

"There hasn't been any reports of any impact to the wildlife or the beaches so far," says Simpson. "The spill has been completely contained and was going through its heavy stages of its cleanup at the time."

Simpson says the company cleaning up the spill is located at the port and immediately began cleaning up the spill. There were no reports of any injuries during the mishap. He says the Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
