ST. PETERSBURG (2009-04-07) -

A coalition made up of civic and corporate leaders is looking to transplant the Rays into a more modern - and profitable - home than Tropicana Field. The coalition struck out with a plan to build a stadium on the St. Petersburg waterfront. So it's natural that Jeff Lyash, the CEO of Progress Energy, who heads the committee, says the most important of five questions being asked is where a stadium would be located.

"Why might you or might you not put a stadium there," he says. "How does it link with infrastructure, parking, TBARTA's plans. We intend to come out with those by June and then gather public feedback on them."

Lyash says they're looking at whether Tropicana Field can be renovated. Other questions being asked is how other stadiums are owned and financed. And what is the economic impact of having a team in Tampa Bay. He says that needs to be known to justify how much public money is being spent on a new stadium.

He spoke before the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club in St. Petersburg.
