Speculation continues on whether Republican Governor Charlie Crist will run for U.S. Senate. But, the guesswork has ended about a local Democrat who was considering the race.

Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio studied the idea of running for US. Senate but decided not to pursue any statewide office in 2010.

Iorio says resolving city deficits and campaigning for light rail is enough to keep her busy.

"I have a feeling that this decision is not necessarily good for my political career that probably is a correct assumption because this is a good window of opportunity," Iorio says. "But, you know when you make decisions in life you have to do what you think is right."

Iorio says a statewide campaign would demand too much time and travel and not be the right thing for the City of Tampa where she's mayor until March 2011.

A Quinnipiac poll showed her competitive against Democratic Congressmen Kendrick Meek, Ron Klein and State Senator Dan Gelber for the U.S. Senate seat.
