Sink Jumps in for Governor
|CFO Alex Sink|
Twenty-four hours after the governor announced his run for US Senate, Florida has its first official candidate to fill his post. Many political insiders predicted it. Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink is running for governor.
She made it official in a statement. Within minutes, the Republican Party of Florida sent an email trying to link the CFO and former bank president to the "subprime predatory mortgage lending."
Sink says that line of attack was not unexpected.
"It'll be an attack a day for the next 18 months," Sink says. "And, I really have a lot of faith in the people of Florida that they're going to see through it and they're going to evaluate the facts and make up their own mind about what kind of leader they want as their governor."
Sink is campaigning on her 30 years of business experience but notes that she's not been inside the banking industry for a decade.
She's believed to be the Democrats' best hope of taking back the governor's mansion after 12 years. And if she is successful, Sink would be Florida's first woman governor.
