Soda Shop Ends with Bang of Auctioneer's Gavel
Less than a dozen bidders came out to try their hand at buying the shuttered Soda Shop on Fowler Avenue. It was promoted as an opportunity for a restauranteur to buy an operation where the kitchen, tables and other accoutrements are already in place. In the end, a Tampa businessman got the low bid - $525,000. And he wants to turn the Hip Hop into something different - a hotel.
The auctioneer says he got a bargain - the county property appraiser values the parcel at just over a million dollars. But this stretch of Fowler Avenue has seen a half-dozen businesses close in the past few years.
