Another Health Care Town Hall
|Cong. Vern Buchanan|
A Tampa town hall meeting on health care reform became raucous two weeks ago when hundreds were turned away because there was no room. A similar forum is being held in Bradenton. It's in a different congressional district and organizers anticipate a different response.
Republican Congressman Vern Buchanan of Sarasota has already held seven town hall meetings this year. So, he wasn't planning one for August until the health reform debate began heating up says spokeswoman Sally Tibbetts.
"We received a number of calls from constituents who wanted the opportunity to discuss the issue with the congressman," Tibbetts says.
It's only scheduled for an hour at the Braden River High School auditorium which holds 700. Tibbetts expects 500 and for people to be passionate.
"We are hopeful that people are respectful and that we can have an open debate," Tibbetts says. "I think that is to everyone's benefit and nothing can be accomplished if people aren't willing to listen to one another and talk openly."
Buchanan's office also is accepting phone comments and emails from those who can't make it to the meeting.
