In the next two weeks, the state Department of Transportation will apply for federal stimulus dollars - $2.5 billion's worth. That's how much the bullet train from Tampa to Orlando will cost. The state is chipping in an estimated one billon dollars - that's the estimated cost for reserving a wide median down the middle of Interstate 4.

Officials with Florida's high speed rail program believe Florida stands a good chance against other states vying for the federal grants.

Two more public hearings are set, for this afternoon at the Lakeland Center and tomorrow in Orlando. Polk County is up for one stop on the bullet train, and five sites along I-4 are being considered.
