There is a three to four foot linear gash at the southeast corner of Tampa’s brand new, $31 million Museum of Art.
Chunks of green-tinted glass were strewn on the sidewalk below the crack. Orange traffic cones and yellow caution tape cordoned off the area.
Santiago Corrada, the City of Tampa’s representative on the museum board, said the damage apparently happened this weekend after a Gasparilla concert in Curtis Hixon Park.
“We’re working on it and it looks like we’ll be find we’ll be able to make the repairs,” Corrada said. “No one will know the difference.”
Most of the museum’s building materials were specially ordered. But the damage was minimal and is not expected to interfere with the museum’s public opening Saturday.
